Musical Minors offer music & movement workshops for babies and toddlers aged 4 months to five years. Yasmin Fraser, originally trained as a nurse and set up Musical Minors in March 2004.
The workshops run during term time in 6 week sessions and have been running successfully on Tuesday in Dundee, Thursdays in Dunblane, Fridays in Bridge of Allan & Perth & on Saturdays in Cambusbarron.
They encourage children to participate in a structured programme offering a fun introduction to music. Each class introduces music and percussion to children within a relaxed and informal group setting. The children love the puppets used: Margo Mouse and friends Melody Monkey, Crotchet Crocodile, Forte Frog and the noisy parrots known as Treble & Clef.
The variety of songs and stories on offer at the workshops focus on nursery rhymes, classical music, playing percussion instruments, moving to music and stories.
As the children progress through the different classes the fun continues. They encourage the toddlers and pre-school children to be more creative in their thinking especially at story time and to develop an appreciation for music and the instruments they use. The action songs and nursery rhymes used help the development and co-ordination and the repititive actions assist with counting and the recognition of parts of the body.
